She flipped the pages, not really comprehending what she was reading. She sighed deeply and leaned back in her office chair, allowing her head to fall back. She looked over to her partner, who was elbow deep in X-Files. She watched a dark curl of hair fall onto his forehead as he pushed his reading glasses up on his nose. she thought, she ended that train of thought before it had a chance to start wandering. She was not about to start feeling those feelings, least of all in the office. The phone rang, startling her and breaking her concentration. She jumped so violently that she was almost dumped out of her chair. "Ah, yes sir," her partner spoke into the phone. "But sir, I don't think...of course. Yes, I understand. I'll be sure to tell her." Mulder conversed with someone whom Scully assumed was Assistant Directer Skinner, then he hung up the phone. An odd look danced across his features, and a sardonic smile began to creep across his lips. His hazel eyes danced with amusement as he regarded his partners questioning gaze. "Mulder, why are you grinning like a fool? Do I have something on my face?" She stared at him, astounded when a light chuckle escaped his lips. "We've got a new case Scully. An unusual case, even for me." He tried to look serious, but his eyes would not obey. "Looks like we're heading for California." "What?" She was thoroughly confused, and in no mood for Mulder's cryptic jokes. "Just tell me, dammit." "Well, a family of four claims to have been abducted. Skinner's sending us to California to check it out." The answer seemed on the level, but Scully could tell by the look in his eyes that he was not through yet. "And?" "They were abducted from, uh, Disneyland." He tried to hold back another chuckle, but the look on her face was utterly priceless. "Why, Mulder? You know this has got to be a hoax. A family, abducted from Disneyland, and we're sent to investigate? This can't be serious. I say we talk with Skinner." "What do you think it is, then? It has gone through all the official channels, and it is an offical case, by the book. Skinner insisted, by the way. He said there was no use arguing. So guess what Scully? We're going to Disneyland!" He smiled at her, but she merely scowled. ********** Walter Skinner steepled his hands and rested his chin on his fingertips. He knew that this case was a lame excuse, but he needed to get his agents out of DC and somewhere where they could heal a little bit. He had decided that sending them on this case to Disneyland, which was obviously a hoax, would give them time to relax and maybe ease the pain and trauma they had been subject to for the last year and a half. He laughed out loud when he pictured Fox Mulder jogging around Disneyland with Mickey ears perched precariously on his head. They would thank him for this when they got back. ********** The flight to Burbank, California was uneventful, even downright boring. They claimed their bags without a problem, and Scully marveled at the clear blue sky and 80 degree weather that greeted them at the outdoor baggage carousel. Dressed in a suit and tights, she immediately began to perspire and wanted to change into more casual clothes as soon as they reached the hotel. Mulder, on the other hand, was wearing exactly what Scully wished she'd chosen, black jeans and a navy blue shirt. He carried the bags to the car, knowing that Scully would have to change the minute they checked into the hotel. From what he'd heard, Disneyland was NOT a place for suits and heels. "Scully, you did bring casual clothes, right? It's gonna be warm here, and I don't think you want to be running around an amusement park in tights and heels." She shot him a "drop-dead-NOW" look and slid into the passenger seat. "Yes, Mulder. I brought different clothes and the sooner you get us to our hotel, the sooner I can get into them." She was still not excited about the case, and Mulder's good mood was getting on her nerves. ********** The stopped off at their hotel, a Travelodge three blocks from the park, and checked in. Scully quickly changed into jeans, a light cotton blouse, and a pair of hiking boots. She began to relax and the beautiful weather lifted her spirits. Before long, they stood at the massive front gates of the most talked-about amusement park in America. Little kids dashed around them, and the whistle from the Main Street Train hooted loudly. Scully glanced at her partner, taken slightly aback by the look of childish wonder that graced his face. Mulder drank in the sights and sounds that surrounded him as they stood outside the gates. Disney music whistled happily from unknown speakers and mixed with the click of turn-styles and children's playful screeching to make a magical atmosphere. A slightly euphoric feeling slid over him and he grabbed his petite partners hands, dragging her under the bridge that led into the park and onto Main Street, USA. As they stepped out from under the bridge, he stopped short, making Scully bowl into him. "Mulder, what the hell are you--" she stopped short, staring at the scene displayed before them. Large turn-of-the-century buildings lined a brick red street, a horse-drawn trolley clipped along a track, and a barbershop quartet ambled down the street singing joyously. The melody was infectious, and Scully found herself tapping her foot along with the music. Mulder looked down at her, amused at her slow changing mood. She'd been cranky and moody all day. He'd attributed it to jet lag and fatigue, hell they'd left at 6 am DC time and now it was close to 6 pm California time. But her tension was slowly easing and a small half-smile was lighting her face. Maybe this silly little case would actually be good for them. "So, Doctor Scully, where to first?" Mulder asked, watching a young employee bustle towards them. "Are you Miss Scully and Mr. Mulder?" the kid asked, his pubescent voice cracking. "Yes," Scully nodded, regarding the teenager. "Can I help you?" "Here, this has been waiting for you at the city hall since this morning." the kid shoved an envelope into her hands and darted away. Being around beautiful women always made him nervous. "Huh," she mumbled after the boy as she ripped open the envelope and she pulled out a piece of FBI stationary. Agents Mulder and Scully, The case you were sent to investigate has been officially closed. It seems that the Anaheim office is more proficient that I thought. I recommend that you stay in California for the remainder of your scheduled return-time, and take a much needed vacation. Enjoy the three days, no new cases are pending. I do expect you back at work on Monday, bright and early. A.D. Walter Skinner. Scully stared down at the handwritten note, and she recognized the chicken scratch to be Walter Skinner's signature. She heaved a sigh and turned to Mulder, who had been reading over her shoulder. "What now?" "We do just what he said...enjoy it." Scully looked at him skeptically, not sure if she really wanted to spend three days in southern California with Fox Mulder, in Disneyland. She didn't have much time to think about it, as a warm hand grabbed hers and pulled her along. XFiles Trek ********** @@@End Part 1@@@ From SLOgirl@msn.com Mon Feb 10 14:02:33 1997 See Disclaimers in Part One Quixotic 2/8 By: The Pink Ladies Twilight was quickly approaching and Scully felt her foul mood slipping away. She had never really understood what the big deal was about Disneyland until now. Walking down Main Street with lights twinkling all around her was enough to enchant even the most skeptical of people. Plus, Mulder's good mood was infectious. He was acting like a three year old, taking her hand and practically dragging her down the street. "Which way Scully?" Mulder questioned as they came to a fork in the road. "Well, I hear they have a great Haunted House," she said as a small smile started to trace her lips, "Its supposed to be really 'Spooky'" Mulder's mouth curved into that adorable half smile as he leaned his head slightly towards her. "Hmm, a Haunted House? Sounds like an X-File. Maybe we should investigate" Only Scully could get away unscathed with a reference to his nickname. "Its a plan Mulder, you lead the way." *********** Mulder smiled inwardly to himself as they made their way through New Orleans Square in search of the Haunted Mansion. He was pleased Scully was relaxing a little; she needed to do that more often. <> After the past couple of months they could both use a little break. Mulder knew he hadn't been the easiest person to deal with during his mothers stay in the hospital. In fact, he was surprised Scully was still talking to him. He owed her a lot. They had reached the end of the line and they took their places in it. "Hey Scully, how do you think I would look with Mickey Mouse ears?" "Mulder those things look ridiculous on everyone." <> "Oh I don't know Scully. I think I could pull it off with my rugged good looks and my boyish charm." He flashed her a big toothy grin that almost succeeded in melting her heart. <> But she wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of a response. So instead she gave him a patented Scully-look. He chuckled softly and succeeded in bringing a smile to her face. He knew that she was finally beginning to enjoy herself. The line was moving fairly quickly and they were soon inside the entrance to the mansion, waiting to board the elevator that would take them down to where the ride started. Eventually the doors opened and the crowd started to push there way into the elevator. Mulder and Scully walked in but were soon pushed further across. A group of teenagers had decided that it would be fun to see how many people they could stuff in to the confined space at once. Scully backed up until she was against the wall, and her breathing stopped short as Mulder was pushed up firmly against her. Her head was inches from his neck and she could smell the sweet and slightly soapy scent that was Mulder. Her heart started to race and she said a silent prayer hoping that Mulder couldn't feel it. Mulder tried to stop himself but his efforts were useless. He was stuck here, pinning Scully to the wall, until the elevator stopped, which he hoped was soon because he didn't know how long he could control his body's reaction to being firmly pressed against her. His heart rate increased a little each time he felt her warm breath on his neck. He felt Scully shift slightly and he tried to make enough room for her to adjust to a more comfortable position, but he only succeeded in becoming even more wedged against her. Scully leaned her head back in an attempt to get a breath of air that didn't smell like Mulder, only to find that Mulder was staring down at her. She tried to look away but her eyes were locked on his, trying to decipher the mysteries within them. Scully tried to look up, past Mulder's head to the body, but all she saw was him. His eyes. His lips. His.... All at once she was flailing backwards, her arms grabbing for anything solid to hold. All she got was an armful of Mulder. The both crashed to the floor, as the elevator type doors had opened behind them and spilled them out into the hallway. A few snickers could be heard as the youngsters in the elevatore filed past, and the two agents wearily and embarassedly climbed to their feet. "Come on." Mulder said, placing an arm around her waist and guiding her down the darkened hallway. They both studied the pictures on the wall, slightly amazed as the pictures changed right before their eyes. After a sharp right, they found themselves in line to ride in small, black Doom Buggies. As they climbed into the small bench seats, Scully felt herself cuddling closer to Mulder. She nearly screamed as an attendent appeard out of the darkness on her left, checking the lap bars. "Scared, Agent Scully?" Mulder asked, teasing lightly, but thankful for the excuse to pull her even closer. She said nothing, but placed her head on his shoulder and relaxed for the ride. Scully and Mulder both giggled hysterically at the silly ghosts and corny voice that was coming from a speaker behind their heads. Scully started as the Buggy leaned all the way backwards, leaving them laying back staring at the ceiling. Scully was uncomfortable for a second, but relaxed as the Buggy leveled out. They were in a graveyard, with loud song reverberating all around them. They pulled through a final doorway and were greeted by the sight of three ghosts jerking their thumbs towards the exit. "Beware of hitchhiking ghosts." The voice cooed. Mulder let out a loud guffaw as their buggy turned and faced the mirror, revealing a short, fat ghost sitting squarely on top of Scully. "I hope you can walk after that." He whispered in her ear, his lips grazing it softly. Scully shivered in his arms, and thought. ******************** Sorry so short. They had started for the Railroad rollercoaster at Mulder's insistence, when he noticed that Scully was holding back. "Scully? Is something wrong?" "No, Mulder, I'm fine." "I don't believe you. What is it?" "Nothing. Let's get in line." She hurried them up toward the line. Now Mulder really knew something was wrong. She had been in a great mood during the haunted house, and had even held his hand when something had jumped out of the darkness and scared her. He couldn't figure out why she suddenly wasn't anymore. He studied her figure for a minute as she stood in front of him. He really wished that he could put his arm around her like all the other couples in the park were doing.<> he reminded himself. They watched as the little rollercoaster climbed a hill and then went into a cave. The line edged forward, and when Scully didn't move, Mulder noticed her still staring at the cave where the cars disappeared. Mulder suddenly had a flash of inspiration. "Scully, are you afraid of rollercoasters?" Scully's blush as she turned to face him answered the question for him. "It's just that I had a bad experience once..." "Scully--It's O.K. I won't let anything happen to you. As soon as this is over we can go anywhere you want to go." "Deal." This time the line surged forward and it was their turn to ride. Scully climbed nervously into the car and Mulder followed her. <> He smiled at her again, and she melted. And she nearly fainted when he did the thing she least expected...he reached out and took her hand and folded it in his own. "I'll keep you safe from the evil rollercoaster!" He waggled his eyebrows at her and spoke in a foreign accent. Scully was torn between wanting to kiss him and slug him. She decided to do the next best thing. "Guess where I want to go when this is over." She waited for Mulder's questioning look. "I want to go see the Tiki Birds." "Oh God Scully, not the Tiki Birds..." "Scully, I don't know if I can handle the Tiki Birds now." He said, looking quite queasy as the walked through the park. "Oh, no." She exclaimed. "You are not getting out of this one, Mulder. No way. A deal's a deal." "Can't we just take a break first?" He whined, putting on his puppy dog face. <> She smiled and gave in, "Well, I'm a little hungry. Why don't we grab a bite to eat?" "You want to eat after *that*?" He asked. "You're the one who dragged me on it, Mulder." "And it looks like I was the one who needed protection from the evil rollercoaster." He smiled, "Okay, we'll get something to eat, then it's off to the Tiki Birds." "Thank you." Without thinking about it, Mulder took her hand as they walked across the park. ********** They found a quaint little restaurant that wasn't too crowded and were seated fairly quickly. Scully glanced across the table at Mulder and could barely hold in her sigh. The boyish wonder had not left his eyes, and it made him look so attractive. <> The waitress came over, bringing them water and telling them about the specials. They had already glanced at the menus, and were able to order right away. "So what do you say, Scully? Is this the best case we've investigated so far?' "I'd have to say so." She thought of Donnie Phaster looming over her, preparing to kill her, and she shivered involuntarily. She stopped shivering, though, when she thought of Mulder's arms wrapped tightly around her after he had rescued her. This time she could not keep from sighing. "You okay?" he asked quickly. "Yeah, just thinking." "About what?" "About how silly you'd look in Mickey Mouse ears." He smiled, "I'm going to buy a pair of those before we leave." "Sure, Mulder." "I tell you what, I'll buy you a pair, too." "I can hardly wait." "If I'm good, will you wear them for me?" She threw him a patented Scully Look, but couldn't help a smile. A very short time later their food came. The waitress talked cheerfully as she set the plates in front of them. Then she said, "So are you two on your honeymoon?" Scully, who had just taken a sip of water, nearly choked. Mulder went to respond, but the waitress would not shut up. "We get so many honeymooners here, and you can always tell. I knew the minute I saw you two that you were newlyweds." Scully coughed, but Mulder just sat there nodding with an incredibly amused expression on his face. "Well," the waitress said, "I'll leave you two alone." She smiled and left. Scully coughed again. Mulder turned back to her with a huge grin. "Not a word, Mulder," she managed. "Not one word." "Oh, Dana," he said using his sweetest voice, "You're not shutting me out on our honeymoon, are you?" Scully attempted to look very annoyed, but she knew her expression must have betrayed her. She knew her feelings - her longing - must have been showing through on her face. ********** After they had eaten, they tackled the Tiki Birds. Mulder had looked absolutely horrified when the robotic birds started singing and Scully was still laughing at him when they left. "You're acting like those birds were straight out of an Alfred Hitchcock movie," she teased. "Birds pecking my eyes out I can handle, Scully, but singing tropical birds? That's a little much." She laughed harder. "It's getting kind of late, Scully." "You're not tired, are you?" "No. I was just going to suggest we stake out a place to view the fireworks. I understand it gets kind of nuts around here when they go off, and I want to have a good seat." "Okay. Where to?" "Well, I think if we move over there a bit, to the right of the castle, we'll have a pretty good view." "Then let's go," she replied. As they walked, Mulder looked down at their tightly clasped hands, their entwined fingers. <> <> <> Mulder shook his head. So what if he and Scully had held hands the entire day? Did it actually mean anything? He hoped so. But she was off limits. Out of reach. *She was his partner.* It was common code at the Bureau that relationships between partners was not good. <> He shook his head again to clear his thoughts. "Mulder? Hey, earth to Mulder. Come in, Mulder." "What?" he said, realizing Scully was speaking to him. She smiled, "A little spaced out there?" "A little." "Well, anyway, how about right here for a seat?" With her free hand, the one that was not tightly held by his, she pointed to a bench. "It doesn't seem that crowded, and it's a great view." "It's great," he agreed. They both sat, separating their hands. Mulder put his arm around her, and she leaned into him slightly. "When do the fireworks began?" She asked. "About a half hour." "Okay." They watched the people go by, mostly families, but the occasional couple. Scully felt envy fill her body as they saw one young couple walk by with a child who looked to be maybe two years old. The child kept exclaiming, "Mickey! Mickey!" The couple laughed, and kissed quickly. Scully felt her heart nearly break, and then felt Mulder's arm tighten around her. She looked up at him, and he smiled, understanding. Only Mulder really knew her anxieties about motherhood. During a recent case, they'd talked a little about it, she could still hear what he had said that night: <<"Good night, *Mom*">> He hadn't meant it teasingly or as a joke, he had known it was exactly what she needed to hear. "Aww! Scully, can't we just stay in? Look! There's room service. We could get tons of great stuff." Scully looked over at her partner cozily wrapped up in the sheets. His eyes drooped slightly and his hair stuck up in every direction. He spoke in a voice deeper than normal, drowsy from slumber and gave her a lazy smile. Her stomach fluttered gently at that smile and she almost let him have his way, Then she remembered where she was and why they were waking up at five in the morning. Her previous impatience returned. "We've been in hundreds of hotels, Mulder. *With* room service. Come on, get up. I want to go!" The look on her face reminded Mulder of a little girl urging her parents to awaken so she could rip open her presents Christmas. "Ok, Ok! I'm getting up!" he uttered, but he wasn't planning on it. He liked being difficult. Satisfied, Scully left Mulder and went into her adjoining room to get her shoes. She came back to find Mulder still underneath the sheets, his feet sticking out of the bottom. "Fox Mulder, you get out of that bed right now or I'll...I'll.." "You'll what?" came the muffled reply. He pulled the blankets down to look at her face. She desperately tried to think of something, and saw he was giving her a self-satisfied smirk. Scully smiled mischeiviously and entered the bathroom. Mulder didn't like that look the look she gave him. Just then Scully reappeared carrying the ice bucket provided by the hotel. "No you don't, Scul-" Before he could get away, she ran up dumped the icy, cold water on his head and into his lap. "Scully!!!" Cold, wet ice water covered his body and he shot up out of the bed. Scully couldn't control herself and burst into gales of laughter. "This means war!" he voiced. Scully was trying to catch her breath from laughing so hard that Mulder caught her by surprise. He put one hand behind her shoulders and one underneath her legs and started carrying her toward the bathroom. "Mulder! What are you doing? Put me down!!" she squirmed around but couldn't escape his grasp. He hurriedly opened the shower curtain and turned on the water. "Mulder!" she yelled as he dropped her inside. He began to pull away when she grabbed his shirt unexpectedly and pulled him down with her. Mulder fell crushed to her. His hands were still on her waist, but she didn't care. Mulder closed his eyes, and inhaled the scent of Scully's light perfume. It smelled wonderful. Scully broke free of his grasp and walked to where the towels were. She took one for herself, then threw one to Mulder. "Here, dry yourself off," she said, and started to towel dry her hair. Mulder did the same, but his eyes were locked on her. He watched her run a hand through her hair, which now turned wavy. Her blouse was stuck to her, and he could see her bra. He stifled a giggle. Scully looked at him. "What?" Mulder gave her the adorable puppy smile she absolutely loved "Nothing" He went back to towel drying his hair and body. Scully finished first, and walked out of the bathroom. She plopped down on her bed. She was exhausted, and she felt her eyes turning heavy. Suddenly realizing that she was shivering, she walked to the dresser. She took out a plain white T-shirt, and a pair of nice looking tan jeans. Just then Mulder walked out of the bathroom with his hair still a little wet. He laid on the bed and propped up an elbow. He too was very tired. Scully looked at him, and thought about changing in the bathroom. Her bra WAS dry, and if she did go in there he would probably tease her. Oh well... It's not like he never saw her in her bra before... Mulder watched his partner unbutton her blouse. She was standing across from his bed, but she was mainly concentrating on her buttons One by one, until there were no more. She took off her shirt, making Mulder's heart leap to his throat. He stifled a gasp. His heart pounded harder. Scully took the dry shirt and pulled it over her head. She stopped before unbuttoning her jeans. Her underwear was wet, so she would have to take that off too. She definitely didn't want to do that in public. Mulder knew exactly what she was thinking and when she looked at him, he wiggled his eyebrows. She rolled her eyes, and went to the bathroom to change. They crept forward, silently drinking their lemonade and listening to random conversations round them. All at once, Scully began giggle, her shoulder shaking from held back laughter. "What?!?" I don't want to see this blatant display of, of, of their....affection," the first woman sniffed. "Affection?" Scully mouthed. Her and Mulder had merely been holding hands...and talking quietly...and he sometimes put his arm around her waist and leaned in close to whisper in her ear... her inner voice snapped. Her heart began to pound as she thought of the last two days they'd spent together. They had acted like Dana Scully and Fox Mulder, not two special agents. And she had liked it. She had liked it a lot. her cynical voice griped. her thoughts screamed back. Mulder watched his partner closely, as her brow knit together and she seemed lost in deep thought. He saw her muscles clench and unclench, and a slight blush covered her body. He thought about the last day and a half, and how much he'd enjoyed spending his time with her...holding her, talking with her, and laughing with her. He wondered what everything would be like when the trip was all over. He noticed her eyes finally looking into his, and he held out his hand to her. She took it firmly and they walked forward, barely realizing that they were about five minutes from their destination. Mulder leaned against the rocky, uneven wall and pulled Scully closer to him. "Public displays of affection, Dr. Scully." he whispered into her ear, answering her mouthed question. She giggled, but stopped when she felt a tap on her shoulder. Both Agents looked up to find an angry old woman and her granddaughter staring at them. A large man in a holey T-shirt and a construction company hat stood behind them and he just shrugged his shoulders. "Excuse me. If you two can't keep your hands off each other, I suggest you get a hotel room." The woman looked at them as if she were smelling a vile stench. They stared at her for a second, then turned and continued down the line. "There are children in this park, and I don't think they should have to see two grown people pawing at each other," the woman called after them. Mulder and Scully were still giggling as they climbed into their log. Mulder got in first and slid back against the backrest. Scully scampered in after him and plopped down on the damp bench. Mulder's arms snaked around her waist, urging her to lean back. Scully relaxed against his chest and laid her hands over his. As they began their first ascent, she felt Mulder cringe. She wrapper her fingers through his and squeezed gently. "I'll protect you from the evil roller coaster" ********** Mulder plodded through the park, his shoes and clothes still slightly damp from SplashMountain. He looked at his watch, which read 6:30 pm. After they had gotten off SplashMountain, they had attacked Pirates of the Caribbean, Indiana Jones, The Jungle Cruise, Star Tours, Space Mountain, The Rockets, Autopia, The Train, and Thunder Mountain again...just for good measure. The sun was lowering in the sky, and the blue was shot with fingers of bloody red and bright pink. The water in The Rivers of America sparkling from the glare of the quickly setting sun, and Mulder felt Scully shiver. The day had been a wonderful 80 degrees, but as evening approached, the temperature dropped. "Scully, let's go on the Mark Twain." Mulder said, motioning towards the large white steam boat docked just to their right. She nodded her agreement and followed behind him, her one free hand wrapping itself around her other arm. They boarded the boat and made their way to the top deck. Scully shivered again as they reached the topmost deck on the Mark Twain. The wind was a bit more brisk up there, where there was nothing to stop it from flowing freely. Scully walked to the bow of the boat and leaned against the railing. She was more than a little upset that their weekend in the magic kingdom was ending, and that tomorrow they would be heading back to DC She looked down at the water, and wondered if their new-found closeness would carry over to DC, but she knew that there was hardly a chance. She shivered for a again, but this time not from the cold. Mulder watched his partner's face, and knew what she was feeling. The past two days had been remarkably special...romantically unrealistic. They had built for themselves a beautiful dream-world that would be shattered as soon as they returned to the gray skies of Washington DC and their trek to separate apartments. He wanted their final moments in this magical place to last. He moved to stand half beside her and half behind her, his arms capturing her in a warm cage. She leaned her head back onto his shoulder, and the deep horn of the Mark Twain honked their departure. Scully snuggled deeper into Mulder's warm arms, thankful for the heat, but even more thankful for his presence in her life. She turned around slowly and her eyes made contact with his. A tiny smile played on his lips, and she wrapped her arms around his neck and hugged him for dear life. She clamped her eyes shut and small tears escaped the corners. From some hidden speaker, a slow love song began. Mulder wrapped Scully in his arms and began to sway. I'll be your candle on the water My love for you will always burn I know you're lost, and drifting But the clouds are lifting Don't give up, you have somewhere to turn Scully lifted her head off of Mulder's chest, and looked into his eyes. The reflection of the sun off the water sparkled in them, and the diamonds that had been sparkling with each wave shone in his gaze. I'll be your candle on the water Till every wave is warm and bright My soul is there, beside you Let this candle guide you Soon you'll see a golden stream of light. A cold and friendless tide has found you Don't let the stormy darkness hold you down I'll paint a ray of hope around you Circling in the air, lighted by a prayer Scully felt the tears of sadness welling in her eyes again, but she knew in her heart that the bond that she had been building with Mulder over four years would never been broken. When they reached DC, they'd still be the close friends they'd always been, if not the "something new" they'd become the last two days. The fact that she'd never lose him was a small consolation, but a consolation nonetheless. I'll be your candle on the water This flame inside of me will grow Keep holding on, you'll make it Here's my hand, so take it Look for me reaching out to show As sure as rivers flow I'll never let you go I'll never let you go I'll never let you go... "I'll never let you go." he whispered into her hair, kissing the top of her head lightly. ********** Scully sat in her seat on the large commercial jet and stared out the window. Over the night, the clouds had moved in, and they covered the sky. she thought darkly. Mulder had disappeared out of his seat ten minutes ago, and she hoped he would get back soon. They were scheduled to take off in five minutes. She heard a ruckus towards the front of the plane and looked up. Heading towards her was Mulder, Mickey ears balanced on his head, and a large stuffed Dragon in his arms. A small box was tied to the dragon's neck, and Scully couldn't help but laugh at the picture he made. He sat next to her, the ears falling in his lap. She looked at the embroidery...'Fox.' He handed her another pair of ears...Minnie ones, with 'Dana' embroidered on them. Then, he presented her with the dragon. "It's Pete." he said. "Open it." he gestured to the long thin boxed tied to the dragon. As Scully untied the box, she wondered briefly what it could be. She ripped off the wrapping paper and opened the box. Inside lay a watch, breathtakingly beautiful. It was a watch that was only available on Main Street. In the watch shop, you could choose a character, and an artist would hand draw the face onto the watch. They were exquisitely beautiful, and personalized with any message you wished. The watch she held in her hands was adorned by a picture of the fox from "The Fox and the Hound". Around the ring of the drawing, in meticulously sculpted letters, it said "Never forget the magic, Love, Fox". Scully used shaking fingers to wrap it around her wrist and buckle the clasp. She wiped at a tear that had begun to track down her cheek. Mulder tried to tilt her head up with a finger on her chin, but she threw her arms around him and buried her face in his neck. "I'll never let YOU go, Fox Mulder." ******************** The End!!!! Whew, the first roundrobin fanfic (attempted) by the Pink Ladies. I must say that I'm really excited that it turned out this well. The importance of the Dragon is that it was from the movie "Pete's Dragon" that the song "Candle on the Water" came from. I don't know if either Mulder and Scully would know that at all, but it was a shot. I had oodles and oodles of fun writing this, and I hope my Pink sisters feel the same say. I hope everybody enjoyed reading this, and you'll be happy to know that a few more stories will be "coming soon"! Love, The Pink Ladies "Tell me about it, stud!"
