What will happen when her father finds out? Disclaimer: Tralalala, they're not mine, never were, never will be :) They all belong to CC, 1013 and Fox Network. This is the first story in the dancing series, which is based on the movie Dirty Dancing. I love the movie and thought it would make a nice Mulder & Scully fic. The series will probably have two more stories after this one. Hope everybody likes it. Joey thanks for the beta-reading :-) Dancing series 1: She's like the wind (1/1) Dana Scully sat in the car, staring out of the window. Her parents had planned a holiday in some holiday park in the country and had dragged Dana and her younger brother Charlie with them. She had tried to convince her parents to leave her at home. After all Bill and Missy had also been allowed to stay home. But her parents hadn't listened to her, had packed the car and they had left. As her father parked the car, she got out and looked around, wondering how on earth she was ever going to survive 2 months here. A man came walking out of the main building enthusiastically, followed by a younger boy. Her father and mother greeted the man enthusiastically and he introduced the younger boy as Bryan, his nephew. Bryan looked at her with an appreciating grin on his face and offered to show her around the park if she wanted to. she thought, rolling her eyes, in the mean time managing to nod and thank him with a fake smile. She prayed to god that not all boys here would be the same as this guy. LATER THAT DAY Dana was walking around the park, trying to find something to do. As soon as she had been allowed, she had left, wanting to avoid at all cost that she would run into Bryan. After half an hour she saw the little houses where the staff was staying. Curiously she walked further and heard music coming from a bigger house in the middle. Slowly opening the door, she saw people clapping and encouraging two people that were dancing in the middle of the room. From what she could see they were doing a pretty good job, this sure weren't beginners on the dance floor. "Hi." Came a voice from behind her. Turning around she saw a boy of her own age standing there. He grinned widely and she smiled back "Hi." "I'm Jake and you?" "I'm Dana." She introduced herself. "You arrived this afternoon didn't you? I saw you with your parents, talking to the boss." She nodded. "So what are you doing here? Does your dad know you're here?" Jake knew that her father sure wouldn't approve it, if he knew she was wandering around in places she shouldn't be. "I was bored." She said firmly and he laughed. "Bryan didn't want to show you around?" He hated Bryan, not only because he was the cousin of the boss, but also because he acted that way. He was always walking around like the place was his own. Her nose crinkled when he mentioned Bryan and the look on her face told him enough. He grinned. "I take it you're not one of Bryan's fans?" "Of that creep?" Jake laughed again, he liked this girl. She was not one of those typical rich girls that came here every summer with their families. This was a girl with an opinion, and she wasn't afraid to say what she thought. At that moment the music stopped and the boy at the dance floor walked to them. Ignoring her he said to Jake. "What's she doing here?" He knew this girl was staying in the park with her family for 2 months, he had seen them arriving that afternoon. And he wasn't too happy to see her here. This was the staff's department and the boss would kill them if he knew a guest had come there. The staff wasn't allowed to mingle with the guests. Before Jake could answer, she answered for him. "She has a name, hi I'm Dana Scully." She extended her hand to him and waited for him to take it. He looked at her curiously and took her little hand in his. "Well hello Miss Scully, how nice to meet you, my name's Fox Mulder. May I ask you what you're doing here?" She shrugged. "I was curious and bored, so I decided to go take a look here." "I think your father wouldn't be too happy if he would know where you are right now." "There are more things my father doesn't know about me, besides I'm old enough to take my own decisions." She said fiercely. "Come on Fox, she's not going to hurt anyone by staying here for a little while." Jake said. Fox looked at his cousin, then shrugged. "I guess not." With that he turned around and walked back to the girl he had been dancing with. "Sorry for that." Jake said to Dana. She smiled at him "That's okay, if I'll really get you in trouble by being here I'll leave." "Don't worry, as long as you don't tell your father or Bryan that you were here tonight, it's not a problem." Jake quickly reassured here. He liked this girl and he didn't mind to spend some time with her. His cousin just wasn't a fan of the rich people. Fox Mulder had been working here, during the holidays, for a couple of years in a row. He was one of the dancing teachers, Jake had gotten a job in the park through his cousin. They chatted for a while, in the mean time looking at the people at the dance floor. Suddenly Fox stood in front of them again, grabbing Dana's hand he pulled her with him to the dance floor. "You're not going to stand there all night are you, come on let's dance?" She looked around to Jake, a helpless look in her eyes, he just grinned and waved while Fox led her to the dance floor. "But Jake....." She protested. "Won't mind if I dance with you for a few minutes." He stopped her protests, pulling her in his arms as they swayed over the dance floor. He was a good dancer, she had to admit that. He was a jerk, but a jerk that knew how to dance. She gave into the music as they moved through the room together. It was not like she hadn't danced before, she had, a lot even, but that had been different. He was different, she had the feeling that she shouldn't play with him, that would be like playing with fire. He was surprised at how well she danced. He had pulled her with him to the dance floor, because he wanted to learn her a lesson. If she wanted to be here, she might as well learn how to dance, really dance. He knew she probably knew all the dances from the book, but what about other kinds of dancing? To his surprise she didn't have any trouble to keep up with him, as they moved through the room. He was a good dancer, but she wasn't that bad either. He wondered where she had learnt to dance like that. The dance ended and she wanted to turn around and walk away, but he stopped her by grabbing her hand and pulling her back to him in one move. She looked up at him in shock, wondering what he was doing. He only grinned as they continued to dance. For a moment she hesitated, then gave in, why not? She liked dancing and he was a good dancer, it wouldn't hurt anybody if she danced with him for a while, would it? In the mean time Jake was standing at the side of the dance floor, his eyes narrowing when he saw how his cousin pulled Dana back with him when she wanted to walk away. What did his cousin want from Dana? He knew him. Fox had had a lot of girlfriends, and had broken just as many hearts. Jake didn't want that to happen to Dana. She was a nice girl, he wasn't interested in her as more than a friend, but he didn't want her to get hurt by his cousin either. Fox Mulder was a great person, but also somebody with a reputation and with a past. The two on the dance floor had no idea about these thoughts. They were lost in the music and into each other. A few songs later they finally broke apart and walked back to Jake. He was talking to a friend and smiled when they walked up to him. "Hi." "Hi." They greeted him back. Fox turned to Dana "Thanks for dancing with me Dana." "The pleasure was all mine." She gave him a dazzling smile. "I'm sorry, but I really have to go, you see....I promised a friend to help... and well, you know. Will I see you again?" "Who knows?" She said with a secret smile. "Great!" He gave her a quick kiss on her cheek and walked away. "Dana?" Jake asked from next to her, but he didn't get a reaction. "Hello Dana?" That didn't help much either. "Earth to Dana." He waved his hand in front of her face. "Huh?" She came out of her reveries. "Are you alright?" He asked a little worried, it looked as if the Fox-virus had already caught her. "Yeah, I'm fine." She looked at her watch and realized how late it was already. "I'm sorry Jake, I really had a good time tonight, but I have to go now, or my dad is going to kill me when I get home." "I'll walk with you." He decided, not wanting her to walk back in the dark all alone. They walked in silence for a few minutes, until Jake spoke first. "You really like him don't you?" "Huh, who?" She didn't immediately realize who he was talking about. "Fox" Even though it was dark, he could see she was blushing. "How do you know?" "Oh come on Dana, I saw you two dancing together. I'm not stupid and I'm not blind either." "He's nice." That was all she wanted to say about it. Jake let it rest, but when they arrived at the Scully's residence he turned around for a minute. "Be careful Dana. Fox's a nice guy, but also a heartbreaker. I wouldn't want you to get hurt by falling for him to deeply. You're too nice for that." After that he walked away, leaving her standing there with her mouth open. On his way back to the house, Jake walked into his cousin. "Where do you come from?" Fox wanted to know. "I walked Dana back to her bungalow." "She's a nice girl, different, but I like her." Fox grinned. "She is, but she doesn't deserve to be fooled around with Fox." Jake warned him. "Who says I want to fool around with her?" "I didn't say you would, but I know you. If that's the only thing you're after, please leave her alone. She doesn't deserve to be treated like that." Jake wanted to walk away, but Fox stopped him for a moment. "You really think I would do that?" "I don't know Fox, all I know is that I've seen you doing it before." That was the last thing Jake said, before he walked away. Leaving Fox alone with his own thoughts. NEXT DAY Dana was having breakfast with her parents and Charlie, when Bryan and his uncle walked up to their table. Dana thought wearily as she saw Bryan looking at her with a seductive smile. Her parents chatted with Bryan's uncle for a few minutes and Bryan tried to talk with Dana, but she ignored him completely, hoping he would get the message. Bryan was in the middle of a story, when Fox Mulder walked into the dining room. Dana's face lit up with a big smile, she wished she could get his attention, but had no idea how she would have to do that without also attracting the attention of her parents right next to her and Bryan who was still standing in front of her. Suddenly Fox turned around and his eyes traveled through the room, until he spotted her. At first she didn't realize he had seen her, but when she looked up their eyes made contact. She gave him a desperate look. A look that said "Please get me out of here, now!" Bryan didn't see him coming, because he stood with his back to Fox. Relief washed over Dana's face as she saw him coming to their table. "You're too late." Was the only thing he said to her. Bryan looked around disturbed when his story was interrupted, he didn't look too friendly when he discovered who it was. "Too late?" She echoed in surprise. Now her parents and Charlie also looked up. "Is something wrong Dana?" Her father asked. She shook her head. "No, everything is alright, I'm just too late for my ....." She looked at Fox for help. "For her dancing lessons. Your daughter signed up for the course yesterday Sir. We would like to start, but your daughter wasn't there yet. So I decided to see if she was around somewhere. I wouldn't want her to miss her first lesson." He smiled politely to make the lie more convincing. Her father nodded, understanding. "I see. You can go now Dana. Enjoy yourself." "Thanks Dad." She quickly got up and followed Fox outside, where they burst out in laughter. "Thanks Fox." She gave him a thankful look. "You're welcome. Your look just screamed "get me out of here". He grinned. "I swear, if I would have had to listen to that creep one minute longer I would have started screaming." She laughed while they walked towards the staff's houses. "And he's such a nice young man." Fox said, imitating the voice of a little old lady. She ignored that one, looking at him as if he was crazy. "Where are we going?" She wanted to know. "Well since I just told your father you were taking dancing lessons...." "You're kidding right?" He shook his head. "Nope, couldn't have been more serious." "But I already know how to dance." "A little practice won't hurt." He tilted his head and looked at her with a grin. "So, what do you think?" He hold his hand out to her. She thought of it for a moment. Why not, it could be fun and at least it would save her from spending time with that creep called Bryan. She grabbed his hand. "Okay, come on." Laughing they made their way to the dance room. A FEW DAYS LATER Dana told herself. She looked at herself in the mirror. What she saw was a happy face, the face of a woman in love. The last four days she had been spending a lot of time with Fox Mulder. Her parents didn't know better than that she was having dancing lessons, in reality they were the excuse for long walks along the beach. Nothing had happened between them, all they did was talk, long conversations about their past, their hopes and dreams for the future.=0D And she had to admit that she had fallen for him. Dana Scully was a straight A-student, always doing the things her parents expected from her, the sensible one and her father's favorite. That same Dana Scully had now fallen in love with Fox Mulder, not the guy every parent would like to see their daughter coming home with. He was a heartbreaker and his friends called him a lady-killer, and he was far from the perfect son-in-law, but Dana knew Fox Mulder also had a different side. The side she had learnt to know during the long walks along the beach. He had told her about his sister, who had disappeared when he was 12 years old, the bad marriage of his parents and their divorce 3 years later, when he was 15. He had run away from home when he was 17 and had worked in a lot of different places. In the summers he had started giving dancing lessons in the park and that's what he had been doing for the last 3 years. What Dana didn't know, was that Fox had fallen for her too. She hadn't left his mind since he had met her that night, five days ago. He knew the rumors that were going around about him, he knew he had a reputation, but this time it was different. Dana was different, this time he was seriously in love. For the first time in his life. NEXT DAY NIGHT After dinner Dana escaped from the house. She quickly found her way to the staff's department and to the place that was pretty familiar to her after coming there every night for the last few days. Jake saw her coming in and greeted her. They talked for a while and it didn't take long until Fox walked in. His face lit up when he saw her. "Hi." He greeted her. "Hey." She greeted him back. "Want to go for a walk?" "Sure." She smiled and followed him outside. She walking in front of him, his hand on the small of her back, guiding her. They walked in silence for a long time, until they both decided to talk at the same time. "Dana...." "Fox...." They laughed and she told him to go first. He grabbed her hand and they stopped walking, she looked up at him with big blue eyes, curious what he was going to tell her. His other hand cupped her cheek and he looked into her eyes. "Dana, I.... I don't know how to say this, I'm not even sure I should be telling you this, but I know that if I don't I'll always regret it. I don't expect you to feel the same, but I think you should know that .... I'm in love with you." Her jaw dropped as he continued. "I know you've heard the rumors about my reputation, Jake probably even warned you for me, and I know that in the past I've done some things that gave me that reputation, but this time it's different. I don't know how I can convince you that I'm telling you the truth, I'm afraid I can't, but I am and I hope you'll believe me when I tell you I love you." He waited for her answer, part of him was afraid that she would tell him that she didn't believe him and would walk away, but she didn't. She laughed through her tears as she looked at him. "I believe you and I love you too." The moment she said it, he leaned down and his lips found hers in a sweet kiss. His arms moved around her, pulling her closer and she put her arms around his neck, as the kiss continued. Minutes later they let go, both smiling and he hold her close in his arms, thanking God that he had brought Dana in his life. 6 WEEKS LATER They spend all the time they could together, being careful so that nobody would find out about their relationship. She had no idea how it was possible that her parents still hadn't found out yet, but somehow they hadn't, maybe they really were careful enough. She was sure her father would freak out when he found out what she was really doing in her free time, probably even more if he knew who she was doing it with. Even Jake had to admit that he had misjudged his cousin. This time he obviously meant it, and it was obvious to his friends that Fox was deeply in love with Dana. They still had two weeks to go and neither of them wanted to think of the moment she would leave with her parents. Bryan was still a bug, but she just ignored him. But when they didn't expect it to happen her father did find out. Maybe it was because they thought they were being careful or maybe they had just forgotten to look around in the heat of the moment, one way or another it happened. They had walked to a more silent part on the beach, sitting down to talk and enjoy each other's company. After a while they started to kiss and not much later they were lying in the sand, kissing passionately. Kissing was all they were doing, but it still shocked her father when he walked by accidentally. He sure didn't expect to see his little baby girl like this, rolling in the sand, kissing her dancing teacher with passion. "Dana!" They immediately let go of each other when they heard his voice. Both freezing when they realized it was her father. "D...d... ad?" Dana stammered. "What the hell do you think you're doing?!?" "I...." She had no idea what to say, not that it needed much explanation, it had been pretty obvious what they had been doing. His father turned to Fox. "And I'd expect more from you! You're her dancing teacher for god sake! Wait till your boss hears about this, I'm sure he won't be too pleased when he finds out." Fox didn't say a word, he listened silently, holding Dana's hand in his. Until he said something Fox couldn't let pass. "You're probably doing this to a lot of girls, aren't you? Telling nice stories, seducing them and...." Fox didn't let him continue. "I'm in love with your daughter Sir." He said fiercely. "Hell you will! Dana you're coming with me right now, if you're lucky I won't tell your mother what I just found out!" He grabbed her hand and pulled her with him. She tried to protest, looking around at Fox, desperation in her eyes and she was crying. But her father didn't listen, he was furious. Nobody would be allowed to do this to his baby girl and he was going to make sure that this would never happen again. He didn't think of the fact that his daughter could be really in love with this guy. TWO DAYS LATER Her father had taken her home and to her surprise he hadn't said a word about the whole thing to her mother, but he did go to his friend and told him about what his dancing teacher had been doing to his daughter. The man took the matter high and immediately went to Fox to tell him he was fired. Reasoning was impossible, he could go. His friends and Jake were shocked when they found out what had happened. They offered to go talk to their boss, but he put the offer down. He didn't want to beg for his job, if he had to leave, he would do so.... with his head up high. He didn't want to talk about it, but the pain was written in his eyes. For the first time in his life he knew what it was like to have a broken heart. He wasn't allowed to come near Dana anymore, he had tried but failed. The last time he had seen her was that day on the beach. The day he had lost the most precious thing in his life, true love in the form of a girl called Dana Scully. When he was all packed and done, he said goodbye to his cousin and all his friends. He got into the car and started the engine, but didn't drive away, staring out of the window for a few minutes. Suddenly he stopped the car again, deciding that he could at least try one more time to say goodbye to Dana. He knocked at the door of the house she was staying and her father opened it. He almost immediately wanted to close the door again, but Fox stopped him. "Wait!" "What do you want? I thought I told you to leave Dana alone?" "I will, I'm leaving in a few minutes, but would you at least let me say goodbye to Dana?" Her father thought of that for a moment. It might be not such a bad idea, the guy was leaving after all and maybe it would clear up the air a little bit. From the moment they had come home two days ago until now Dana hadn't talked to him anymore. She had only given her father angry looks every now and than, for the rest ignoring him completely. She had said one thing after he told her Fox was fired and had to leave. "I hate you." They had always been close, but now they were as far apart as two people could be. "Okay, but make it quick." He said, turning around to go get his daughter. She was lying on her bed, reading a book. "Honey there's somebody here to see you." She didn't even look up, just continued reading. "Dana...." "What!" She said, being rude, wanting to be rude to her father after everything he had done to her. "Fox is here to say goodbye." Now she did look up. Their eyes met for a short moment, than she got up from the bed and walked to the living room. Before she went out she turned around and said "Thanks Dad." Fox was waiting outside for her. A smile came on his face when he saw her. "Hi." She said shyly. "Hi.... I ehm just wanted to say goodbye." "You're leaving." she concluded, a tear making its way down her face. He nodded, stretching out his hand to wipe the tear away. "I didn't have much of a choice, I was ordered to leave as soon as possible." "I'm sorry Fox." She said, looking down, staring at her shoes. He put a finger under her chin and made her look up at him. "Don't Dana. Don't apologize for it. I don't regret one single thing I said or did since the day you came in my life. I love you, never forget that." She smiled through her tears "I love you too." He pulled her in his embrace for a few minutes. Cherishing every second, taking in every part of her, because from now on he would have to live his life without her, living on memories. "What are you going to do now?" She mumbled against his chest. "I'm not sure yet, but I'm thinking of going back to college. If there's one thing you learned me, was that I should live my dreams. And maybe some day we'll meet again." "You really think so?" "If we're meant to be together, we will." He leaned down to kiss her one last time, than he turned around, walking back to his car. Trying not to look back at the lonely figure who was staring at him walking away. When he was almost there he couldn't resist, before getting into the car he looked around one last time. She just stood there, waiting for him to leave, tears falling down her face. But she didn't do anything, she didn't run after him to stop him. She just stood there in silence. She's like the wind through my tree She rides the night next to me She leads me through moonlight Only to burn me with the sun She's taken my heart But she doesn't know what she's done She had done more than taking his heart. She had changed his life forever. Feel her breath on my face Her body close to me Can't look in her eyes She's out of my league Just a fool to believe I have anything she needs She's like the wind They needed each other, but it was a forbidden love, but maybe some day, in a few years time, they would meet again. I look in the mirror and all I see Is a young old man with only a dream Am I just fooling myself That she'll stop the pain Living without her I'd go insane He had no idea how he was going to live without her. He would probably go insane, but he had to, he wasn't given a choice. "I'll never forget you Dana Scully." He said, before he opened the door of his car, got in and drove away. Out of her life. The End Tada! End of story, what did ya all think? Stupid, too sappy or was it good? Feedback welcome at voet@tanja-myrna.demon.nl
